Argentine technology entrepreneurs stand out not only in the local market but also in the United States and Europe for their ideas and the quality of their services.
This year, Argentina saw the birth of three new unicorns and now has a total of eight with international presence, including Mercado Libre, Globant, OLX, Despegar and Auth0.
The last three were Mural, a company that offers software that allows employees to collaborate and work together; Aleph Holding, a digital advertising company; and Vercel, a U.S.-based firm that developed an open source framework to develop web pages.
Within this framework, the ambition of Argentine startups is, then, to grow their business model on a global scale and not limit themselves to the domestic market.
A clear example of this dynamic is Spark Digital, a technology company from Tandil that exports its technology consulting, software design and development services to companies all over the world.
Currently, its main clients are New York-based telephone operator Verizon; UK firm MacMillan; entertainment company News Corp which owns Fox News; and the Dow Jones stock index, among others.
“Our first customer was Verizon and the first project had to do with video player integration. They continued to be clients throughout these nine years. We are currently working with them on two different projects,” says a spokesperson for the startup.
In this line, the Argentine startup is helping MacMillan to become a technology company and they were in charge of developing a mobile application where students can interact with teachers, take quizzes and receive grades.
“At Fox we do front-end, back-end, DevOps and we develop their OTT applications”, they add from the firm. The acronym OTT stands for “over-the-top” and refers to audio, video and other content services on the Internet without the need to go through an operator.
Thanks to its presence abroad, the company grew 30% in the first quarter of 2021 and already has 320 employees, according to official data from Spark Digital.
Today, 83% of the team is focused on Argentina and is in full expansion stage.
Through the social network LinkedIn, the startup is looking for 26 people and the vacant jobs are mostly related to technology positions. For example, they want to recruit iOS application developers, engineers specialized in Python language, Node engineers, analysts and more.
