South Summit has released the list of the 100 startups that will be present in the final of the Startup Competition. All those selected will have the opportunity to pitch their pitch live to the corporations, investors and leaders of the entrepreneurial ecosystem gathered at South Summit 2021. This meeting, which will take place in Madrid between October 5 and 7, under the slogan ‘Shape the future’. Among these finalist startups are a total of 4 projects originating in Andalusia.
After a laborious process, the most innovative startups in the world have been selected, coming from leading industries, such as Fintech, Education, Healthcare, Software and Development, E-commerce, Social Impact, AgriTech, Data & Analytics, Green & Clean Tech Solutions, Logistics and Consumption.
More than 3,800 companies have submitted to the Startup Competition 2021. Of the 100 chosen, 64% are of international origin and come from 24 countries. The rest are national startups, especially from Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia.
Regarding their development stage, almost 4 out of 10 startups finalists of South Summit 2021 are in the ‘early’ phase, 38% already reach the ‘growth’ or scaling up level, 19% are in the ‘seed’ phase (seed) and only 1% in ‘concept’. In addition, 74% of these startups already obtain income derived from their business.
Among the finalists, projects founded by men predominate (73%) and about 3 out of 10 of these initiatives have been created by various founders, men and women.
The list of finalist startups has been decided by a Committee made up of recognized investors and experts in innovation, based on criteria such as the level of innovation, scalability, internal growth potential, investment capacity and the characteristics of the human team that makes up each company.
Among these 100 finalists, the presence of four Andalusian startups, two from Malaga and two from Seville, stands out:
Ines Optics (Seville): disruptive technology company that implements artificial vision solutions. Its main product is INESCUBE, an artificial vision system that includes lighting, camera, hardware and software. They specifically tailor the software by training neural networks, teaching INESCUBE’s intelligent eye to think for a specific mission.
Kaikoo (Málaga): software made 100% for esports coaches and includes solutions such as real-time trackers, boards to send tasks as well as video analysis tools. The platform is also prepared to do automated coaching for solo players with the data collected from all the world games played.
Kampaoh (Seville): brings together the comfort of a hotel and the adventure of a camping site. They are the first hotel chain “without bricks”. His proposal is respectful with the environment and totally committed to sustainability.
Logistiko (Málaga): optimizes and monitors the delivery routes of distribution and / or delivery companies thanks to its technology. Logístiko helps any last-mile delivery company, regardless of its sector or business size, to simplify and automate its daily operations.
Thus, among the great diversity of the 100 finalist startups there are innovative solutions that range from a solution for the development of electric propulsion modules for nanosatellites, to a company of touch sensors oriented to industrial Robotics.
In any case, cutting-edge technologies are the common factor of the finalists of this edition. Artificial Intelligence (21%); Electronics, Digital & Apps (10%); APIs & Enablers (8%); Cloud (7%); Internet of Things (4%); Big Data (4%); Machine Learning (3%), and Autonomous Vehicles (3%) are the technologies most used by startups chosen for South Summit 2021.
That is precisely the leitmotif of this edition ‘Shape the future’, to encourage the innovative global ecosystem to be part of the transformation towards the future based on the three founding pillars of South Summit -Connection, Innovation, Business- to which it joins a fourth, essential to shape the future: Sustainability.
Entrepreneurs and experts
For three days, Madrid will become the meeting point for some very special speakers: the ‘South Summit’s Shapers of the future’. Entrepreneurs and innovation experts who stand out for their active contribution to green change such as: Christopher Gavigan, co-founder with actress Jessica Alba of The Honest Company; Gunter Pauli, creator of the concept “The Blue Economy”; Sebastian Siemiatkowski, co-founder and CEO of Klarna, the most valued European fintech; Bisila Bokoko, Global Leadership & Diversity Expert, one of the ten most influential Spanish women in the business world in America; Marcelo Claure, CEO of Softbank, the Japanese investment giant behind the main “unicorns” or Francis X. Suarez *,Mayor of Miami.
At the same time, other great national and international names from the entrepreneurial ecosystem will participate in the exclusive experiences of ‘Leaders Forum’, held in the most emblematic places of the capital and led by the exceptional businessman and visionary Martín Varsavsky.
And, as part of its commitment to the future and youth, South Summit has launched the ‘Next Gen’ competition, aimed at promising young entrepreneurs, between 14 and 17 years old, who will be able to participate in the project contest, make their pitch to high-level investors and corporations and be inspired by talks from experts and successful entrepreneurs, to prepare for their future as entrepreneurs.
The 2021 edition of South Summit will not be limited to Madrid. The commitment to change and opportunities will arrive in Valencia in November and, already in January 2022, the innovative ecosystem will take Bilbao.
