Startups of the open innovation platform, BIND 4.0, have telematically visited the factory of the leading automotive company, Mercedes-Benz in Vitoria this morning, to learn about their leading digital transformation projects. The organization, which has been collaborating with BIND 4.0 since its first edition in 2016, has taken a tour of its main innovation projects to show attendees its latest technological advances and tell how it has managed to transform its plant into a digital factory.
In this visit, BIND 4.0 partner companies have also participated to share experiences on the development of technologies and on the best collaboration practices in innovation and industry environments. The objective of this didactic experience, organized by BIND 4.0 and Mercedes-Benz, is that the participants can learn about the most relevant production processes of Mercedes-Benz and can have an approach with those directly responsible for the projects.
The day began with a virtual visit by Emilio Titos, General Director of Mercedes-Benz Spain, and continued with a dynamic of interactive technological exhibitions in groups, in which attendees were able to share experiences on how to increase the collaboration in open innovation and industrial transformation.
With this format, the startups and partner companies of the BIND 4.0 have been able to know first-hand the production processes of Mercedes-Benz in which it has applied technologies such as additive manufacturing, augmented reality, robotics or artificial vision, from the hand of those responsible of each area of the company, which have made it possible to carry out the projects. Specifically, between the interactive sessions, attendees have been able to see how a collaborative robotics project based on AGV is carried out, how a predictive maintenance of mechanical failures is started, or how to achieve energy storage on lithium batteries, among many other innovations.
Leyre Madariaga, Director of Digital Transformation and Entrepreneurship of the Basque Government, who accompanied the BIND 4.0 startups and companies this morning during the conference, stated that “visits like the one we have made to the Mercedes-Benz factory provide us with great opportunity for all BIND 4.0 members to, on the one hand, learn about the path of innovation from the hand of a leader in Industry 4.0 and, on the other hand, learn through a live demonstration how to work efficiently. collaboration between startups and large companies with a common goal ”.
Emilio Titos, General Manager of Mercedes-Benz Vitoria, reaffirmed the commitment of the Gasteiz factory with the acceleration of the digital transformation, necessary to compete optimally in an economic environment of constant technological evolution. “In this sense, we also feel responsible for encouraging innovation and digital transformation in our network of suppliers. Our experience of collaboration with BIND 4.0 and startups drives the digital transformation of our ecosystem. ”
