The Catalan-Danish startup Abzu, based in Barcelona and Copenhagen, has closed an investment round of 6 million euros in the ‘seed’ phase, which will allow the emerging company to strengthen its development team. technological product, related to artificial intelligence.

As reported today by the Business Department, Abzu has developed its own artificial intelligence technology that, thanks to the application of an algorithm, acts as a simulator that identifies relationships between data sources.

This enables accurate predictions and mathematical solutions to be found to complex problems, facilitating the interpretation of results and decision-making by scientists.

In this sense, the company currently uses this solution for the pharmaceutical sector to accelerate the development processes of new drugs and clinical studies, although the company aims to expand the sectors of action in the future.

The company was founded in 2018 simultaneously in Catalonia and Denmark, and currently has 18 workers, with the forecast of reaching a workforce of 30 people this 2021.

To establish itself in Barcelona, the “startup” had the support of ACCIÓ, the agency for the competitiveness of the company of the Department of Business and Labor.

According to the head of Abzu’s Business Development in Barcelona, Elizabeth Gil-Roldán, those responsible for the company decided to open offices simultaneously in Denmark and Catalonia “due to the difficulty of finding talent in Denmark, since above all we were looking for programmers and developers of software”.

Gil-Roldán underlines that this investment round will boost the activity of the Barcelona offices to strengthen the bulk of the technological product development team, which is located mainly in this city, and reinforce the commercial strategy and academic collaborations.

In the round, which will go to both the Barcelona and Copenhagen offices, mainly international investors from the Nordic countries have participated, such as Seed Capital, Inventure and preseed Ventures, as well as various ‘business angels’.

Abzu has recently joined the CataloniaBio & HealthTech Catalan cluster.
